Synopsis
Once On This Island is a story of Ti Moune, a young peasant girl from a poor village on a small island. Her life is uprooted when the gods of the island decide to use her to settle their argument about which is stronger – love or death. The god Agwe arranges for Daniel, a “grand home” from the rich side of the island, to have an accident near Ti Moune’s village. Ti Moune finds Daniel and falls in love with him. When Papa Ge, the god of death, comes to claim Daniel’s life, Ti Moune offers her life in exchange. An angry Papa Ge leaves saying he will return to claim Ti Moune later. Ti Moune follows Daniel back to the rich side of the island with the help of Asaka, the earth goddess. When Ti Moune finally finds Daniel, the goddess Erzulie gives them the gift of love. Daniel’s father then tells him he cannot marry a peasant, he must marry Andrea, the daughter of rich society friends. Papa Ge returns to claim the life of a devastated and broken Ti Moune. He tells her he will spare her life if she will agree to kill Daniel. It is up to Ti Moune to choose which will rule her heart, love or death.
This lovely folk tale, told through beautiful music (from the creators of RAGTIME and Dessa Rose) and dance will captivate all ages.
