The Site
The Muni site has come a long way since the fires that destroyed it in the mid-1950's. Tucked away along Springfield's lake side, the Muni really is Broadway Under the Stars for audiences in our outdoor amphitheater.
The Muni site features:
- 60 acre site
- 36' x 60' foot stage with full orchestra pit
- Approx. 132 feet of backstage space
- Approx. 815 reserved seats, with additional general admission lawn seating
- Costume shop and dressing rooms
- Scene shop
- Elaborate light system and booth
- Professional sound system
- Concessions building and patio
- New addition and remodeled restroom facilities
- Picnic area w/ tables and grills
- Ample parking
Directions
The Muni is located at 815 East Lake Drive in Springfield, Illinois. Our outdoor amphitheatre is located exactly 2.5 miles east of the I-55 Stevenson Drive exit. To find the theater from that intersection, travel east across the Lake Springfield dam and continue on East Lake Drive. The site is on the left just past the Lincoln Greens golf course.
Services
Handicapped Services
Hearing impaired - A limited number of sound enhancement devices are available free of charge on a first-come basis. These may be checked out from the House Manager at the entrance and returned following the performance.
Physically challenged - The Muni lake site theater is fully accessible, restroom facilities and parking. Golf cart rides are available to transport guests that need assistance.
Picnic Facilities
Picnic tables are available on a first-come basis outside the gate of the theater. No reservations are needed.
Responsibility for the use of coolers and alcoholic beverages on the Muni grounds rests entirely with the guest. If the guest is of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages and is behaving in what is determined by Muni personnel as a responsible manner (not creating noise or disruption), coolers and alcoholic beverages will not be restricted within the site. Any behavior determined by Muni personnel to be irresponsible, offensive or disturbing to others will cause the removal of the alcoholic beverages and/or the patron(s), with no refund of ticket fees.
Concessions/Refreshments
The Muni concessions stand is located at the top of the hill near the entrance. It opens at 6:30 p.m. on performance nights (the main gate opens at 7:00 p.m.), offering hot dogs, barbeque sandwiches, nachos, freshly-popped popcorn, candy, ice cream and a variety of beverages. Condiments are available just outside the concessions building on the patio.
House Rules
Photography/Recording
The taking of any photographs and/or audio or video recording of a performance is strictly prohibited.
Cell Phones/Texting
Please turn off cell phones during performances. Please refrain from texting, as it can disturb others who are trying to enjoy the show.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited inside The Muni gates.
